The Ri’ayah Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose primary goal is to provide education and healthcare to people who are deprived of these necessities. Our current focus is on the people of Liberia, whose lives have been devastated by years of civil war, disease, and increasing poverty.

The Ri’ayah Foundation, Inc. is an outcome-based agency, and thus we heavily rely upon continuous evaluation to ensure productivity and success. Each quarter the Executive Director reviews the current state of funding for essential programs. Regularly scheduled board meetings, both domestically and abroad, are mandatory to oversee all operations and to ensure that goals are being achieved. Assessments will be made to guarantee appropriate spending, management, organization, and preparation.

Data will be collected by monitoring the progress of each child we have enrolled in school, including attendance and involvement, and will be collected quarterly through meetings with program instructors and the child’s families. Evidence of the effectiveness and efficiency of our existing and proposed programming will be gathered and reported using narrative and/or numerical approaches. Mechanisms for gathering narrative information include individual, open-ended survey questions, and observations of the program in action. The perspectives of program participants, program staff, and other stakeholders are often captured.

The overall success of our student support program will be reflected in the number of students we can enable to attend school. This year’s goal was to add 5 students to the original 15 we supported through the year last year. As our foundation grows and donations increase, we will be expanding this goal to include many more students: our current long-term goal is to enroll 25-50 additional students in school every year. An additional indicator of success will be the percentage of students who become self-supporting when they leave school.

The completion of the school we are building will be a first milestone in that area. The orphanage will be a second milestone, and the health center the third. Our goal is to be able to open them and provide ongoing support, eventually expanding to provide facilities in other much-needed locations. Each new operational facility will be an indicator that progress is being made.

Long-term, our goal is to have a primary and secondary school in each of the 13 counties of Liberia.

-          Our founder, Hawa Sheriff, grew up in Liberia until forced to flee with the advent of the civil war. She knows the country and its needs well and still has family living there, giving her a strongly vested interest in rendering aid and support to Liberia.

Our diverse staff has strong ties to the local community, and thus possesses the unique ability to relate to our target demographic. Our personnel in Liberia give us the ability to recognize local needs as they arise and the capability to respond quickly to situations and needs:
